I’m a vegetarian. I’ve never really enjoyed the taste of red meat (despite coming from somewhat of a hunter-gatherer family), save for the occasional taco or hamburger, so I stopped eating it when I was about 14. Chicken was a staple in my house growing up, so I continued to eat it until I was 19, at which point I was no longer living at home and was too lazy and repulsed by raw meat to cook it for myself.

I’m not bothered by people eating meat, and don’t fall on one side of the fence or the other as far as whether humans “should” eat meat. I do think that the way that animals are treated in the meat industry is abysmal and I wish that all meat-eaters could afford to eat humanely-raised, organic meat, for both their health and the animals’. For me, I just don’t enjoy eating something knowing that it was once alive, pretty cute, and smarter than a dog (and probably some people I know)…so I don’t.
